I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2007. While the official diagnosis came with a tremendous relief because I could take action and relieve symptoms that persisted for years, it also came with a lot of questions. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to eat safely outside of my house, much less travel the world as I had dreamed. Fortunately, I have found that not only can I travel, but I can truly enjoy the journey. There are a lot of options out there, whether I’m in my home state of Florida or on an adventure in a foreign land. I’ve traveled to over a dozen countries, and though it took a bit of work, I have had great experiences everywhere.
As I think of exploring the world and learning new cultures, the landscapes, buildings and arts are important, but the food is a critical piece to immersing oneself into the culture. Little did I know, the world is much more gluten-free-friendly than I expected, and it keeps getting better. As I share my experiences with you, my husband may also chime in from time to time, to also offer his perspective as a family member of a Celiac.
My hope is for this site to give you a bit of reassurance that you can fulfill your wanderlust even with Celiac Disease. Hopefully, you’ll even wander off the beaten path and discover some hidden treasures as I have.
